WSET Level 3 in Wines
This is a highly professional course that opens up the world of wines and offers comprehensive coverage of the major wine producing regions of the world. A large part of the course is focused on professional tasting technique, product identification and quality assessment.
WSET Level 3 Award in Wines qualification is open to students who hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge.
It is a pre-requisite for candidates planning to study for the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines qualification.
Entry Requirements
Candidates are advised to hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines before studying for the WSET Level 3
Students and candidates who are under the legal minimum age for the retail purchase of alcoholic beverages in the country where the examination is being held will NOT be allowed to sample any alcoholic beverages as part of their course, but this is not a barrier for successfully completing the qualification.
The Course is split over two weeks, with three days in the first week and two days in the second week.
Course days are 08.30 – 16.00. Lunch is included in all 5 days.
The exam is set at a later date giving students enough time to study
ITINERARY
Unit 1
- Production of Wine (location, viticulture, vinification, maturation and bottling, labelling regulations)
- France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Central and South Eastern Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, North America, South and Central America
- Sparkling Wines
- Fortified (Liqueur) Wines
- Information and Advice for Customers and Staff
- Approximately 80 wines from both local and around the world.
Unit 2
- WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting – how to taste wines and evaluate the quality, style and price
Level 3 Award in Wines Specification
EXAM
The final exam consists of:
– A theory exam with 50 multiple choice questions and four short written answers (2 hours)
– Blind tasting exam of two wines (30 mins)
A minimum pass mark of 55% in both papers is required.
The exam date is flexible and a recommended time of three weeks following the course is advised.

Entries close three weeks before the start of the course.
